Google AI announced the launch of Playground, an experimental platform that lets users create, play, and share custom games without any coding experience. The concept relies on a conversational interface where players describe their game ideas using simple text prompts. In a few clicks, the system automatically generates characters, rules, environments, and gameplay mechanics, providing an accessible creation experience for everyone.

Once a game is built, users can test it immediately, tweak it by asking new questions or adjusting parameters, and share it with friends or publish it in Playground’s community gallery. This growing gallery offers games made by other members, with leaderboards and multiplayer options available in certain genres. Published games are subject to safety screenings aligned with Google’s community guidelines, as well as a user reporting system, to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

Playground is browser‑based, allowing play on a phone or laptop. Games can remain private, be shared via a link, or be published for the entire community to enjoy. Users can also create a Play Games profile, choose a handle, follow favorite creators, and participate in rankings.

For creators who want to go further, Playground plans a future integration with Unity Spark. Unity Spark offers professional‑level game mechanics, high‑fidelity 3D graphics, and the flexibility of the Unity engine. This collaboration would let users start with a simple text prompt and evolve into more complex immersive experiences, all while staying accessible through Playground.

Unity Spark is currently in testing, with a closed beta scheduled soon. Games built with Unity Spark will be available to all Playground users.

The service launched on October 7, 2026 in the United States for users aged 18 and older. Creation access is tiered based on the user’s Google AI subscription level, offering additional features to premium subscribers.

Playground is an ongoing experimental project that continues to evolve thanks to community feedback. Google invites users to create, share, and provide feedback to continually improve the platform.
